Frequently asked questions
What is Kinpal?
Kinpal is an app for iPhone and Android – free to download, extras as a one-time purchase – that makes you look busy on your phone – with a real-looking chat, a fake phone call or an audiobook. Underneath is a silent safety net: a signal phrase you choose yourself alerts your trusted contacts with your live location during the call.
How does the alarm work?
You raise the alarm with your signal phrase during a fake call or in emergency mode. Trusted contacts with the app instantly get a push notification and follow your location live. For contacts without the app, a prepared text message with a link to the live map opens, and your phone sends it. The app shows you how many contacts the alarm really reached. Use “Send test alarm” in Settings to try everything beforehand.
How do I become someone's trusted contact?
Install Kinpal for free, open “Be there for others” in Settings, enter the name you want to appear under and tap “Sign up as a trusted contact”. Then send the link shown to the person you want to be there for. Allow notifications, otherwise no alarm can reach you. For trusted contacts Kinpal never costs anything.
How does the signal phrase work?
In Settings you choose a sentence that sounds normal in a call but that you would never say otherwise, like “say hi to aunt Edna for me”. If it comes up during a fake call, a silent alarm goes out. There is deliberately no default phrase. Speech recognition runs on the device wherever that is supported.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open the full version in the app (Settings → Full version) and tap “Restore purchase”. Make sure you are signed in to the App Store or Google Play with the same account you bought with. The full version is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
How do I delete my data?
Diary, walks and recordings live only on your phone. You can delete them one by one in the app; deleting the app removes everything. The server deletes alarm data automatically 48 hours after the alarm starts. Trusted-contact data is deleted 12 months after the last app start, or immediately on request by email to business@moinsen.dev.
Does Kinpal replace emergency services?
No. Kinpal notifies your trusted contacts and shares your location. In acute danger, call your local emergency number. The emergency button in the app is always one tap away.
How much does Kinpal cost?
Everything that protects you in an emergency is free: emergency mode, signal-phrase alarm, rescue call, live location, trusted contacts and the emergency button. The full version with all conversation packs is a one-time in-app purchase, priced fairly in every country. There is no subscription and no advertising.
